Winter is in full swing! We have been incorporating a ton of winter-themed songs into our sessions as a way of reaching a multitude of clinical goals. Here are a few of our current favorites!

  1. Ukulele in a Snowstorm - The Okee Dokee Brothers

This song is so much fun! There's no better way to beat the Winter blues than to pretend we're on a tropical island strumming some ukuleles. It is a super fun way to incorporate reality orientation while supporting motor skills.

  2. Blankets of Snow - The Okee Dokee Brothers

Blankets of snow is a much more comforting song. It focuses on how cuddling up by the fire with a blanket is sometimes the best thing to do when it's cold outside. This song is oftentimes used to promote relaxation, especially when slowed down and played on the acoustic guitar. In addition to this, it can be fun for the client and clinician to sing it together on a particularly cold day.

  3. Do You Wanna Build a Snowman - Disney's "Frozen"

An absolute favorite for clients and clinicians alike! We will oftentimes make a hypothetical snowman while singing this song, complete with its own name, accessories, and more. It opens the door to so much creativity!

  4. Snowflakes, Snowflakes - The Kiboomers

This song is perfect for a slow movement exercise. It is paced like a lullaby, which lends itself to a more relaxing approach. A cozy song for a cold, snowy day.

  5. Skating - Music for Kiddos

Another super fun movement song!! This one is much more fast paced, allowing for everyone to get their giggles out. We love using paper plates or anything that can aid in "skating" around the room. Not only is this fun, but since the skates make motor movements more difficult to coordinate, it requires a lot of sustained attention.
